I can honestly say that I've been to at least one of each following grocery stores: Pathmark, Whole Foods, Shop-Rite, Wal-Mart (small grocery section), Super Fresh and Rite-Aid (When I'm too lazy to go to the grocery store).
I've been highly disappointed time after time with all of the above. When I first moved to Philly, I searched high and low for a grocery store that was affordable and reminded me of the stores back home(OHIO)...but I always came up short. One time after many desperate attempts to search for food, I decided to do some online research--I know I'm not the only person who feels this way! I came across Phillyblog.com, a site that continues to help me even to this day. Phillyblog has taught me more than any book about Philly has ever taught me.
While browsing through Phillyblog, I came across a post about someone who was going through the same situation as me. Many of those who commented told the person to check out Reading Terminal Market on 12th and Filbert Streets. That is when I couldn't wait to check out Reading Terminal Market to see what it had to offer.
At first approach, I was overwhelmed what Reading had to offer from fruit, seafood to freshly baked pastries. I couldn't believe that I finally found what I was looking for.
Every couple of weeks, I make a trip to Reading to gather my meats and vegetables. I usually go to Harry G. Ochs for my meats like chicken and ground beef. I then head over to Iovine Brothers Produce for my vegetables and other tasty treats.
I recommend Reading Terminal Market to anyone who is looking for something better than your average grocery store.
